Convenience: The Number One Reason Why People Are Choosing Cremation

Funeral home

There are many reasons why people prefer to ask their funeral home to arrange for cremation over burial but one of the most important ones is convenience. You may think that cost is the main reason, but a recent survey shows that people prefer cremation primarily because it is simpler and more convenient than burial. Saving money is often the second reason for choosing cremation.

But why is convenience the number one reason for people preferring cremation? Here are some of the reasons why.

The transient population is on the rise

One of the biggest reasons why people tell convenience is the reason they chose cremation is because more Americans are transient than before. What does that mean? It means more people are moving away from their place of birth or where their family stays than before. It can be due to going to college or looking for a job in the big city or in this global age, going to some other countries for work.

Hence when people live far away from their family, it is not possible for them to wait for burial which often takes days. Plus, burial is a localized funeral; people often have family plots in their hometown or family lands. This means, that even if the person died somewhere else, he or she has to be bought home for burial. People who are living somewhere else often don’t have the time to handle the logistic of it. On the other hand, cremation can be performed anywhere where there is a crematorium, and the remains can be taken away for a funeral service later on. People can even talk to their funeral director over the phone and arrange for cremation and have the remains shipped to them if they can’t make it back for some reason.

People are pre-planning their funeral

Another factor that is egging people to choose cremation over a burial is the fact that people don’t shy away from pre-planning their funeral anymore. And among them, nearly 50% choose cremation over burial as they don’t want their family members to spend too much on the funeral or have complicated funeral services. Since they are being pragmatic about their funeral, they are choosing the convenience of cremation over the traditional nature of burial.

People want to be eco-friendly

Another convenience of cremation is that it makes it easy to leave a much lesser carbon footprint when one departs. With people being aware of how their everyday decision affects the whole world, they are consciously making decisions that are eco-friendly. And though burial can also be eco-friendly or green, the convenience of cremation in this regard is better. There is no need to use embalming fluids to embalm the body which is highly toxic for the environment or buy biodegradable coffins from funeral homes that are a must for green burial and cost quite a lot. So, you conveniently have a green funeral when you choose cremation.

So, these are the reasons why people consider convenience to be the number one reason for having cremation.
